Lucky Shot

I LOVE this picture.

We decided to spend an afternoon at the park last weekend. I was taking slide pictures of my oldest while this little one was playing around at the top of the slide. I snapped a picture of big sister at the bottom of the slide, and next thing I know, little sister is coming down, too! I didn't have time to focus the picture... I just stuck my camera in the slide opening and hoped for the best. This is the result! I can't believe how lucky I was with the focus and that awesome expression on her face.

(ETA: Joining this week's Simplicity Photography Challenge with this photo.)

Finding a pattern...

This assignment asks us to review our "Inspiration File" and find a common theme or pattern, whether that is your subject or a certain technique you love. Aside from the typical "perfect portrait" I strive for, I seem to enjoy taking pictures of the "bits and pieces" that tell a story.

That might be the sweet little tap shoes at dance class...

Love the natural light in the dance studio. Love focusing on one thing and leaving the rest of the scene to fall into a blur.

The completely candid shot that gives you the sweetest expression of ultimate concentration and "I'm so happy learning this"...

Maybe a soothing, steamy cup of calm before the day begins... quiet time to spend with myself, before I have to put me aside to take care of everyone else. Caffeine energizes the physical me while God energizes the spiritual me through His Word.

Morning light is another favorite. :)

While these images say something to me, and that is certainly enough, I still want to find and shoot the small images like this that have universal significance.

Why Photography?

I have to admit, my main attraction to photography and the biggest reason I photograph is to capture these two beauties while I can... time is so fleeting and they change so fast.

Do I have internal reasons? Maybe. As a mom, it usually seems my girls are as much a part of me as anything else. There is something inside of me that wants to photograph scenes and places that I find beautiful, not necessarily involving people, but I don't devote enough time to myself to really cultivate skills in that area like I wish I did. Definitely something to work on over the next several weeks!
